The facade of Atlixco's Ex Convento Santa María De la Asunción. 1 of 2. The Church of Santa María de la Asunción is an example of 16th century religious architecture. The conventual complex, composed of the church and the convent, was built starting in 1581 and finished in 1585. The facade of the church sports a Mudejar-style portal with Gothic influence, Franciscan iconography, the original wooden door and a line of Greek crosses of black tezontle that crown the building. The facade has four elements: the cover, the rose window and two buttresses. On both sides of the door two niches of the Via Crucis. The tower is an addition from the mid-18th century.
