2025 - Mexico - Feb - Mar - 333 - Puebla - 137

Puebla de Zaragoza has no shortage of statues and sculptures honouring past military and political figures. This one on Avenida Juárez is the Monumento a Juárez. Benito Pablo Juárez García was a prominent figure in Mexican history, known for his contributions as a lawyer, politician, and president. Juárez served as the 26th president of Mexico from 1858 until his death in 1872. Juárez led the nation through a period of significant political and social upheaval, including the War of the Reform and the French intervention. Juárez championed liberal reforms, including abolishing the privileges of the church and military, establishing civil marriage, and promoting secular education. Juárez successfully resisted the French occupation of Mexico and the establishment of the Second Mexican Empire under Maximilian. As the first indigenous president of Mexico, Juárez's leadership inspired many Mexicans and Mexican Americans to fight for their rights.
