Coursetia glandulosa

Coursetia glandulosa in seasonally dry tropical woodlands (selva baja caducifolia) along highway 190 southeast of Izucar de Matamoros at Puerto del Gato, Puebla, Mexico. Coursetia glandulosa is abundant in this environment including on steep banks with loose substrates. Collected by Matt Lavin 5896 and Kristi Lavin on 10 January 1987. Coordinates: 18.391619, -98.333665, 1190 m elev. Coursetia glandulosa flowers most abundantly in leafless condition during the dry season (about late December through the following early May on average), but glandular racemes bunched together on short shoots and flowers with white petals are distinguishing of this species when leafless. Coursetia glandulosa often averages 5-6 tall the seasonally dry tropical forests and woodlands in Mexico, compared to averaging about 2 m tall in the northern part of its range in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, USA. An abundance and diversity of arborescent cacti and woody legume species are characteristic of the selva baja caducifolia environment. iPhone photo of a Kodachrome slide.
