That day i took a different route to the main plaza and walking on 5 de Mayo street i saw this man holding that sign. I talked about the project and he accpeted gladly. I knew he would have an interesting story to tell so i sat with him in a near bench so i could listen to him carefully. His name is Tomas, but he's better known by the nickname on the title. Tomas is 85 years old and since 3 years ago, all by himself, promotes environmental care trough messages like the one his holding, not only in Puebla, but in 22 more states. He hopes to visit the rest of the 31 states and be recieved in the senate, to be listened so the congressmen create severe laws for the protection of the environment. His concern about the environment grew because when he was young he lived in a cleaner Puebla and Mexico and he would like that today's environmental quality was as goos as back then. He carries with him a folder with a map of Mexico with the states he have visited painted in different colors, as well as newspaper cuts from the places he has visited telling his story, in fact he got his nickname from a jorunalist in Veracruz and also it's interesting to see that some of those newspapers have put his story on the front cover. For nonspanish talkers/readers i've placed the translation of his sign, as a note. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ese día tomé una ruta diferente para llegar al zócalo y caminando sobre calle 5 de Mayo vi a este señor sosteniendo ese letrero. Le hablé del proyecto y aceptó con gusto. Sabía que iba a tener una historia muy interesante que contar y me sente con él en una banca cercana para poder escucharlo con atención. Su nombre es Tomas, pero es más conocido por el apodo que he puesto en el título. Don Tomas tiene 85 años y desde hace 3 años, él solo, se ha dedicado a promover el cuidado del medio ambiente a tráves de mensajes en pancartas no solo en Puebla, también en 22 estados del país más. Espera poder visitar el resto de los 31 estados y ser recibido en el senado para que sea escuchado y así los congresistas creen leyes más severas para la protección del medio ambiente. Su preocupación por el medio ambiente surgió porque de joven le tocó vivir en una Puebla y un México en general más limpio y le gustaría que la calidad del medio ambiente en el presente fuera la misma de antes. Con él carga una carpeta y en ella tiene un mapa de México, con los estados que ha visitado pintados de distintos colores, así como reportajes que los periodicos de los lugares en los que ha estado han hecho de él, de hecho obtuvo su apodo de una periodista de Veracruz.
